Biography
London based harpist available for concerts, functions and weddings. Rhian is from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, and is a graduate harpist of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She received a scholarship to study for her postgraduate diploma at Trinity College of Music, for which she received a distinction. Rhian won second prize in the Junior World Harp Contest in 1994, the Nansi Richards Scholarship and runner-up in the Blue Ribbon Prize at the National Eisteddfod in 1998.
Rhian is a beneficiary of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Clothworker's Foundation, the Grace Williams Memorial Trust and Craxton Musical Trust. Rhian made her lunchtime recital debut in 1999 at St. David's Hall, Cardiff and later that year at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London.
Rhian works as a freelance harpist and has been involved in a number of exciting projects, most notably she has played with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia and RTE Concert Orchestra, and was associate harpist to the West End musical My Fair Lady. She has also given chamber music concerts at the Cheltenham International Festival, Brighton, Canterbury and Endellion Festivals.
